Tropicana

Tropicana, part of PepsiCo, has been gradually introducing metric-sized products. Starting with the Pure Premium 1.75 L carafe designed to compete with the pioneer, Simply Orange, Tropicana expanded the range of various metric containers. The sizes included are 200 mL, 400 mL, 450 mL, and 1 L. Of particular interest is the 450 mL plastic bottle, designed to replace the pint (473 mL) containers. While most of their juices are still sold in customary volumes, some of their upscale specialty lines, like Pure, have gone mostly or completely metric. Let's show them our support by purchasing their metric juices and by writing them to encourage a complete conversion of their product line.

I have noticed over the years that your products are coming more and more in round metric sizes. I'd like to thank you for the products you've converted to be round metric so far and encourage you to convert all your products to use round metric sizes as soon as possible.

Given you're doing this conversion, I encourage you to contemplate using easily divisible sizes (for example 500ml instead of 450ml when replacing the pint) and to list the metric number first and the US customary measure in parenthesis after e.g. "500ml (1.05 pints)". As a consumer, it's a lot easier to work with numbers that divide easily into 1L.

Finally, I'd like to encourage you to lobby the federal government to change the Food Packaging and Labeling Act so you don't have to put US customary measures on your products at all which will be much more convenient for producers and consumers alike.

I wanted to thank you for introducing a good number of metric-sized
products to the American market.  Its much easier dealing with liters and
milliliters especially that now there is a large number of products
available using those units.  The clutter and confusion that results from
ounces, pints, quarts, and gallons is neatly eliminated by simply
remembering two metric units and their relation: 1L = 1000mL.  With the awkward
 128 oz  = 8 pts = 4 qts = 1 gal, labeling becomes a free-for-all.  Since much
of the beverage market is moving in the direction of metric containers,
it's becoming very easy to relate to metric quantities in drinks.

Everything can be compared to the 2L or 1/2L bottles that are now
everywhere.  Thus I urge you to continue to follow the metric route.  Please
convert your entire line of products to metric-sized containers.  1/2 gal
cartons can easily become 2L cartons; 10 and 20 oz bottles, 300 and 600mL
respectively.  Or if you want to reduce your sizes and end up with
metric, go with 250mL and 500mL.
