Food Marketing Institute
The Food Marketing Institute is a major anti-metrication force here when it comes to labeling laws (particularly the Food Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA)).
For some odd reason they seem to prefer supermarkets using cost per unit indicators on their shelves instead of making measurements inherently make sense and be easy to calculate. However, they're not interested in standards for those labels (so you still end up trying to compare pints and fluid ounces for two items) and strongly oppose them being mandatory.
So, as consumers, we need to make sure that they understand we want metric. I highly encourage the contacting of both the FMI and it's member companies
