Austin Medical Center

The Austin Medical Center recently started changing to be exclusively metric in all their work. Patient safety is sighted for this (many of us have long known or have experienced issues based on horrible mixups because we use a customary system for some things and metric for everything else).

At this time, it's important for them to know that they have strong support from the community during their change. So, lets mail them and let them know they're doing the right thing.

I recently read an article on your site saying you're going completely metric for patient safety ( http://mhs.mayo.edu/mhs/live/page.cfm?pp=locations/news.cfm&orgid=AMC&nav=New&sub=AMC%20goes%20metric%20for%20patient%20safety%0D%0A ).

Having had my daughter prescribed an overdose through miscommunication about milliliters and teaspoonfuls, I'm very relieved to see that some medical facilities around the country are taking notice of this critical issue and, more importantly, doing something about it.

Again, I thank you for actually doing something about fixing the dangerous practice of using customary measures in medicine and request that you lobby the federal government to have customary measures banned from all medical facilities not just those with sufficient foresight.

Dear Paul,
Thank you for visiting Austin Medical Center's website and for letting us know about how important it is to go all metric. Of course, patient safety is one of our main priorities here, as it should be in every healthcare facility. Your comments will get passed on to our administration.
