Lobbying
Mike
posted a thread asking for thoughts on lobbying the government. So, here are my thoughts.
Yep, lobbying the government and industry is pretty much required if we don't want to be stuck with this silly system for the rest of our lives (and our children's).
I put up
http://gometric.us with the aim of having a central site that anyone could edit and so we could collaborate rather than having a large number of sites with small amounts of mostly replicated information.
My dream is that we can collect useful information about each of the politicians, parties, laws and businesses and use that to effectively lobby. The more we work together, the more information we can get and the more effective we can be (and the easier it'll be to get political attention).
I've put up the infrastructure and add what content I have time for, if you're interested in helping, create an account and start adding content. If you're a programmer, there's plenty of interesting infrastructure to build (for example, I'm currently looking at writing a form letter plugin).
I'm also more than happy to host any other applications etc we need to be effective.
Goals
Another thread by Breanna Byington asked what the goals of the Facebook group should be.
My initial response was:
Make a big enough noise that metrication becomes an election issue for the next presidential election.
However, the longer version of what the goals of this site and metrication advocates in general needs to be something like
this page.
